Match Preview: Bangor Grammar School vs Dromore High School - 15/12/2018

Bangor Grammar School vs Dromore High School

Last week was arguably the most disappointing performance that Bangor Grammar School have put in this season (vs Wallace). Looking to put that match behind them, Dromore High School are Bangor's opponents tomorrow.

Match Preview

Dromore High School are fairly new to the top level of Schools' Rugby, having only contested in the last two Schools' Cups. However it is evident that Dromore have big aspirations, and have made considerable gains across the last two seasons.

This year, up to last Saturday, they had played 10, won 4 (against Lurgan College, Banbridge Academy, Cambridge House and Larne Grammar School), and lost 6 (against Friends, Regent, Down High, Portadown College, Rainey Endowed, and Royal School Dungannon).

By comparison, Bangor Grammar School have this year played 13, won 5 (Belfast Met, Belfast High, Ballyclare High x2 and Friends Lisburn), and lost 8 (against Royal Armagh, Ballymena Academy, Sullivan, Campbell, Coleraine, BRA, Dalriada and Wallace).

The Front Row Union produce the best form of ranking system for local schools' rugby. As of last week, Dromore currently sit 21st out of 33, and Bangor Grammar were last ranked 18th. The system is geared up to take both results and quality of opposition into consideration.

Last Time

Last year, at Dromore Rugby Club, was the first meeting of these two teams in recent memory (possibly ever at 1st XV level).

The final score was 50-18 to Bangor, in a match that featured some incredible breakaway tries. This was one of Bangor's most impressive displays last season. Matthew Quinn, Will Simpson (x2), Zach Kerr (x2), Jack Gibson, Aaron Sexton and Gareth Wells all notched up tries, while Rhys Larmour added 5 conversions.

Below are short highlights of that match.

Team News

Aaron Sexton returns from Ireland U19 representation, after their defeat to Australia U19s last week.

Patrick Dobie replaces Luke Norman at number 8, and Chris Pyper rejoins the second row.

Making way for Sexton's return is Harry Angus, who came off early last Saturday.

Also sidelined are Adam Pritchard (broken foot) and Cameron Stewart (shoulder).

Conor Lusty is now the only BGS player to have started every match this season. He is also the top points and try scorer, having recorder 60 pts / 12 tries.
